Answers to Your Questions
Here are some questions that we get asked quite often. They may address some things you're thinking about. If not, please feel free to e-mail Dr. Ogden at [email protected] with your specific question.
My smile is not as attractive as it used to be. Is there anything I can do?
Certainly! Chips, cracks, spaces, misalignment, and darkening that comes with the natural aging process almost always have solutions. We can usually change any aspect of your smile, whether it's a minor problem or a complete "makeover". At your initial visit we'll take the time to listen about your preferences for an ideal smile. We'll help you explore the possibilities.
OK, I know my smile isn't ideal, but how much does it really matter?
Studies have shown that your smile, eyes, and overall appearance (clothing and posture) are the main things people notice when they meet you. Within 4 minutes, based on these qualities, people decide the possibilities for any further relationship with you. The critical time? The first 30 seconds! That may seem shallow and superficial, but it's true. Your smile is a critical ingredient in your confidence and success in the development of personal, social, and business relationships.
How can I fix a chipped front tooth?
There are several alternatives, usually based on the size of the chip. Very small chips or rough edges may be erased by recontouring. Larger chips can be restored with direct composite materials or veneers or crowns, based on the size and location of the chip.
Can all teeth be made lighter?
We can make any smile or any tooth whiter. The best way for you depends on the type of discoloration you have. Almost everyone has heard of bleaching. Bleaching works best on yellow, orange, and brown discolorations. If you have old fillings that are discolored or making a tooth look gray, they can often be replaced. Teeth that are generally gray in color can be treated with bonding or porcelain veneers. Remember, bleaching won't affect any fillings or crowns you may already have.
I want straighter teeth, but not braces. Are there any options?
Orthodontic treatment is often an ideal option for improving alignment, but many patients want to avoid braces because of appearance and time issues. Minor misalignments can often be corrected with restorative dentistry. If this causes any compromise in making your smile look "natural", we'll discuss it at length prior to any treatment.
What if I have complicated problems that are too expensive for me?
After a complete examination, we will know with great certainty the cost of your treatment. We have a variety of payment plans available with third parties, some of which allow you to make payments over 3-4 years.
Do you provide "regular" general dentistry?
Yes, although we do refer patients needing orthodontic treatment, oral surgery, complicated root canal treatment, advanced gum disease, and children who need extensive care. The specialists we recommend are all people whom we would feel comfortable being treating by ourselves.
I know someone who is looking for the kind of services you provide and would really benefit from your care. Are you accepting any new patients?
Absolutely! The greatest compliment we can receive is a referral from a friend, relative, or business associate. When we are granted such an opportunity, we are truly flattered by your appreciation and confidence in our care.
